Abstract: In this paper, on the basis of archive material and relevant literature, we will analyse the development and modernisation processes in the area of scientific and technological thought in Montenegro in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The interpretation and examination of science and technological discoveries in Montenegro, as one of the factors of modernisation at the end of the 19th century, is only possible if it is linked with the overall social, political and economic circumstances, to a greater or lesser extent, which, all together, conditioned the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution. We will examine the influence of the scientific and technological revolution on the Principality of Montenegro, with a particular focus on the acceptance of Western ideas and innovations among the population. The patriarchal social structure and deeply rooted customs significantly determined the acceptance and application of discoveries in the field of science, thereby determining both the tempo and character of change.
